Accessibility Statement
Last Updated: March 12, 2026
My Commitment
I believe that the web should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities. I strive to ensure that markkimmerle.com adheres to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level and is usable by people with a wide range of abilities and assistive technologies.
Current Status
I regularly audit this site using a combination of automated testing tools and manual keyboard navigation assessments. My current focus is on closing the gap between automated conformance and the lived experience of assistive technology users. Screen reader testing is planned and will be completed prior to the next review in Q3 2026.
Known Limitations and Workarounds
I am committed to transparency about accessibility limitations on this site. The following issues have been identified and are being actively addressed:
- Mobile Navigation Keyboard Flow: I am currently refining the keyboard-only experience for the mobile menu. Users may find that the off-screen menu is reachable via Tab before it is triggered, and tabbing past the final menu item does not automatically close the menu. A fix is in progress.
- Third-Party Commenting Widget: The "Submit" button on my blog comments uses a color palette that does not meet the minimum contrast ratio requirements under WCAG 1.4.3. This widget is provided by a third party and cannot be directly customized. I am evaluating alternative commenting platforms that offer better support for custom styling and accessibility.
Future Testing
While I have prioritized keyboard and automated testing, I am actively building a plan for comprehensive screen-reader testing using NVDA and VoiceOver. This will be the next phase of my internal audit.
Feedback and Contact
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this site that isn't listed above, if something isn't working as expected with your assistive technology, or if you have suggestions for how I can improve the user experience for everyone, please contact me via this form. I take all accessibility feedback seriously, and will respond within two business days.
